KluraLabs, The EpiCentre-based materials science company transforming food packaging in Haverhill, has successfully raised £8 million in funding to accelerate the rollout of its pioneering technology across global retail supply chains.
The investment will support wider commercial deployment of KluraLabs’ breakthrough packaging solution, designed to slow food spoilage, extend shelf life and significantly reduce waste — a major challenge for grocery retailers, producers and manufacturers. The company’s innovation brings powerful antimicrobial and preservation capabilities to everyday packaging without compromising sustainability or food quality.
“We’re delighted to secure this significant round of funding to take our technology to the next stage of commercial scale-up,” said Dr Matin Mohseni, Co-Founder and COO of KluraLabs. “This funding validates both the urgency of tackling food waste and the confidence investors have in our science-driven approach to transforming the food system.”
Helen Earl, Centre Manager at The EpiCentre, said: “We congratulate the team on successfully raising £8m to accelerate their pioneering work tackling food waste. As one of the very first companies to occupy our laboratory facilities in 2020, KluraLabs has grown alongside The EpiCentre from the outset and it is a real endorsement of our laboratory facilities to see the company continue to scale its operations here.”
KluraLabs’ solutions are engineered to integrate with existing packaging supply chains and are already generating industry interest for applications across high-loss fresh produce, bakery, pre-packed meals and more. The company’s technology has previously earned recognition and awards for its potential to improve logistical efficiencies while reducing environmental impact.
“Reducing food waste is an environmental, social and economic priority,” added Dr Mohseni. “Our mission is to build practical and commercially viable, science-led solutions that contribute to a safer, more sustainable global food system.”
