THE SPACE AGE COMES TO THE EPICENTRE, HAVERHILL

The Space Age is coming to The EpiCentre in Haverhill on Wednesday 20th September 2023, and while the words “Houston, We have Lift Off” might send tingles down the spine, applications of the space industry have a much greater relevance to our everyday lives and businesses than we might realise.

There are a vast array of applications involving satellite technology across many industries and the wider supply chain including agri-technologies, the energy sector, the marine sector, communications and IT, ports logistics, advanced manufacturing in engineering, defence, wellbeing, education, and investment.

Haverhill and the wider business community is invited to come to this month’s Business Networking event taking place at The EpiCentre on the morning of 20th September from 9.00-10.30am and then a separate special evening event between 17.30 and 19.30 on the same day. Stuart Catchpole, Space Cluster Manager for Space East will be addressing the audience on “What Space East Can do for Business in the Eastern Region.”

Stuart says: “You might already be working in the space sector, you might be using space technologies or data, or you might be simply interested in finding out what the space sector can do for you and your business. Whatever your motivation, Space East aims to bring together innovative people from business and academia to share knowledge, expertise, and capabilities to explore exciting opportunities and establish the Eastern Region as a leading player in the UK space sector.”

With the backing of the UK Space Agency and Satellite Applications Catapult, Space East’s strong cluster delivers support for business and facilitates collaboration, growth, and development through its cluster community, promoting the region and space-related activity, benefitting regional business and the economy as a whole.

The EpiCentre’s, Innovation Director, Gary Jennings, says: “This is what our networking events are all about, supporting our occupiers at The EpiCentre and companies in the wider region to help them grow their business.   Stuart is with us to share the progress of Space East to date and how the benefits help not just the region but directly with local businesses.”

Space East is co-funded by the UK Space Agency and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership, It is one of 17 space clusters around the UK and the newest to receive UK Space Agency funding which is there to bolster the UK government’s space strategy released in 2021. The strategy aims to grow the UK space sector, which is now worth around £17.5bn to the economy.
